Fred Israel was born and raised in Kitchener, Ontario with a German ancestry on both sides. Fred enjoys working with fabrics and particularly in the design of quilts. He started with the typical machine piecing and hand quilting, but has grown to favour both hand applique and hand quilting. He has met other male quilters, but they are few on the ground. Fred is a self-taught quilter, and has found much inspiration and techniques from books and magazines. While in Windsor, he was invited to exhibit with a local Quilters Guild, and acted as the judge for a quilt show. He hopes that a show of his work will provoke questions, and lead to greater discussion.
